New Delhi, Oct 20: A day after Diwali, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited Kedarnath and offered prayers to lord shiva ahead of its closure for the next six months. Modi was accompanied by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and other state and central government officials.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the new Kedarpuri township, which was ravaged in flash floods in 2013. He also announced several welfare schemes after offering prayers at the shrine. This is his second visit to the shrine this year.
